TIMBER SUPPLIES

The timber frame construction system has been perfected over the centuries. The term BENT came about when the first wood trusses were designed by bending trees to create a sloping roof shelter. As time passed and wood joinery evolved such as mortise and tenon and wooden pegs to fasten joints, the timber truss is still identified by the Bent designation.

Today, we utilize a variation of Bent styles/trusses for the different structural purposes within the plan. We designate the distance between the bents with the term BAY. For example, the hammer beam bent/truss serves the purpose of clear spanning wide open spaces whereas the crown and queen bents help to carry second floor spaces, and also to separate rooms from one another. A single home may have multiple bent styles to achieve a desired architectural result.

We have included some example structures along with pricing so that you can have an idea of the costs associated with this craft. As you compare these plans to one another, it will become evident that timber frames are priced by the piece and the complexity of the frame. Like all custom homes the final cost will range depending on the products selected and the complexity of the design. Our structures can be implemented as a free standing building or incorporated within a conventional build to easily create a hybrid home.
